AUDITIONS

Auditions for Honky Tonk School happen every Saturday at Tootsie's on the second floor from 2-6pm!

Musicians should come prepared with 1-3 popular songs to perform with our house band.

There is no need to contact us before auditioning. You'll give your name to the host of the audition when you arrive at 2pm at Tootsie's back room.

Singers do not need to bring any equipment.

We are not able to offer ear monitors during an audition so you will use our floor monitors.

Drummers, bring sticks only. Broken snare heads, etc will be the responsibility of the auditioner. Rock out but take it easy!

Bassists, just bring your bass guitar.

Acoustic guitarists, bring your guitar, capo, tuner and an instrument cable.

Electric guitarists, bring your guitar only. We are not able to accommodate pedal boards. The house band's lead guitarist will have a pedal board with basic drive and boost options.

Soloists: Fiddle, horns, etc. bring your instrument and an instrument cable. You'll plug into a DI box on stage.

Full bands: same equipment as listed above. Our house band features lead guitar, acoustic guitar, bass and drums. If you have a large band or several electric guitarists, you may have to showcase with a limited lineup.

Please be courteous to the house band by not breaking or over-adjusting any of their equipment. Do the best you can with the tools present. The energy and vibe you bring is much more important than showcasing your personal tone preferences.
Remember that the house band is working for tips and lending their gear to you for free. They'd appreciate any gratuity you throw in the band's tip jug. Even better, get the crowd to tip the band. They'll be grateful for it.

-----------------

If your audition goes well, you will be invited to our weekly Monday meeting where you will re-audition and potentially receive regular bookings at our venues.

If we feel you are not ready to play regular shows with us, you can still be an active member of the Honky Tonk School through lessons, cowrites, social media creation, recording and mentoring. Your personal development as an artist is our goal.

------------------

We have compiled an unofficial list of some of the most common Broadway requests as of Fall 2024. Popular requests change all the time but this is a good place to start. If you are not at least familiar with a majority of these tunes, or if you don't recognize the shorthand titles, you may want to delay your audition until you've done some research. Know the original keys to each of the songs but be flexible if someone in the band needs the key changed.
